THIS MEANS WAR

A quote from Ravi Zacharias yesterday on American Family Radio:

“The difference between warfare in the world and the spiritual warfare of Christians is this:

The purpose of warfare in the world is to destroy the enemy.

The purpose of the spiritual warfare of Christians is to win the enemy over.  This is much harder.”

! ! ! GAME DAY ! ! !

CHRISTIANS—IT’S GAME DAY!

WAKE UP!

RISE AND SHINE!

This is the day you’ve been training for.

This is the day you’ve been waiting for.

This is not the day to stay home and study the playbook.

This is not the day to show up for practice.

This is not the day to show up in street clothes (camouflage).

This is the day to get your uniforms on and be identified.

This is the real thing.

This is the first real game for most of you (in America).

Don’t get me wrong—you will need your playbook.

This is the day it sure would help if you had your playbook memorized.

This is the day the Coach will not be pushing you through tough drills.

This is the day you will be tested by the opposing team.

This is the day you signed up for.

This is the game day the Coach scheduled.

This is the opponent the Coach arranged.

This is “the game,” and it will get ugly, bloody, and desperate.

This is the day you find out if you’re on the team, or just thought so.

This is the day many will look for another team.

This is the day you find out how much you need the Coach on the field.

Don’t quit.

PRIORITIES IN TOUGH TIMES – – – REALLY TOUGH TIMES

In tough times you start checking off what you will stop buying.

Make a list now of everything you get with money.

Number the items in order—things you might do without buying.

Add to your list, and change numbers, as you think about your priorities.

You can also mark items from the other end—things you can’t do without buying.

How many items are on your bottom line list, that you must buy?

May I suggest there are only two items that you must buy, in good times and bad—FOOD  and  CLOTHES.

“Having food and clothes—be content with that.”     —–His Book

You buy food—you buy clothes—you choose contentment, which you can’t buy.

Your treasure determines where your heart is.

Your heart determines your contentment.

THE REMNANT REVOLTS – – –

What is “The Remnant”?

(a few thoughts before I answer the question)

Sometimes the remnant is in the majority—

.          —then the remnant falls asleep.

Sometimes the remnant is persecuted—

.          —then the remnant strengthens.

Sometimes the remnant wins—

.          —then the remnant relaxes.

Sometimes the remnant loses—

.          —then the remnant wanders.

Sometimes the remnant is focused—

.          —then the remnant is powerful.

Sometimes the remnant loses its focus—

.          —then the remnant searches its soul.

Sometimes the remnant tries harder to fit in—

.          —then the remnant loses its identity.

Sometimes the remnant identifies with a political party—

.          —then the remnant loses its message.

Sometimes the remnant is afraid to speak out—

.          —then the remnant becomes weak.

Sometimes the remnant is divided—

.          —then the remnant loses its influence.

Sometimes the remnant thinks it is losing—

.          —then the remnant becomes discouraged.

Sometimes the remnant thinks it doesn’t count—

.          —then the remnant thinks it is too small.

Sometimes the remnant is hit with “divide and conquer”—

.          —then the remnant individuals say, “I’m the only one left.”

On that note I shift from singular to plural.

Sometimes the remnant forget who they are—

Sometimes the remnant forget whose they are—

Sometimes the remnant forget why they are—

Sometimes the remnant forget how to revive—

Sometimes the remnant forget how to recover their influence—

So, now we have three questions:

What is “The Remnant”?   (actually, What are “The Remnant”?)

How do they revive?

How do they recover their influence?

N0w, here is where I’ll lose some of you to “ho-hum” or “defensive.”

The Remnant exist continuously through all history, and today.

The Remnant are usually a minority, with potential influence far beyond their numbers.

The Remnant go through all the phases listed above, and more.

The Remnant are often invisible, with usual mistaken identity.

The Remnant are always on the winning side in the end.

(please re-read all the above after you read what follows—and think)

What are “The Remnant”?

The Remnant are those people who surrender everything to Jesus, and who live that way no matter what the cost or consequences.  The Bible is their guide for everything in life, and it works just as it is written.

How do they revive?

The hard fact is that God’s people, His true followers, wander and lose their focus on Him and His Word.  They fall under the world’s influence, and God has to bring them back—with whatever it takes.  Sometimes “the goodness of God leads to repentance,” sometimes the warning of God leads to repentance, and sometimes the judgment of God leads to repentance.  The longer the frog stays in the heating water, the harder it is to get out, and some don’t make it.  So the remnant get refined before they get revived.  Refined means everything not pure is gone.

How do they recover their influence?

Business as usual does not restore the remnant’s influence.

Trying harder with some of the world and some of God doesn’t work.

The rightful influence of the remnant on the culture is automatically restored when supernatural changes happen inside individuals—seeking God over deep, convicting sorrow for sin.  When everything lukewarm and double-minded gets purged from a person, that person will pray like never before, read the Bible like never before, and the fire inside will make a difference to others.

And back to the title of this piece:

When The Remnant restore their identity with God, revive their intimacy with God, and recover their influence from God, their revolutionary impact on the world, will follow.  Then, . . .

GIVE US THIS DAY . . .

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and the other stuff I need.

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and my other priorities.

Give us this day . . . enough manna for today and . . .

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and enough for my retirement.

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and enough for future calamities.

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and enough to pay for protecting what I don’t need.

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and enough to pay my doctor when I worry about stuff.

Give us this day . . . our daily bread, and no trouble.

Actually, God, I know You focus on basic essentials, so here’s the deal:

You give us this day . . . our daily bread, and I’ll take care of the rest.

WHEN TRUTH IS TRUTH

Truth does not become Truth . . . when it becomes relevant.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when circumstances make people listen to it.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when the majority believe it.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when people open their Bibles.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when all goes well.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when hard times come.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when Congress sings “God Bless America.”

Truth does not become Truth . . . when you beat the system.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when it gets enough votes.

Truth does not become Truth . . . when I believe it.

Truth is Truth when . . .

That is not the way to talk about Truth, because it implies that there are times when Truth is not Truth.

TRUTH IS TRUTH . ! —at all times, in all places, in all cultures, in every debate, in every dilemma, in every living being.

We can’t define it, because we didn’t invent it.

We can’t define it, but we can find it.

We can’t define it, but we can draw a line with it.

We can’t define it, but we can live by it.

“What is TRUTH?”     —–Pilate, to Jesus

“I am the TRUTH.”     —–Jesus

“Your Word is TRUTH.”     —–His Book

We cannot alter or affect the TRUTH—but we can accept it.

The glorious TRUTH is this:

“Then Jesus said to those Jews which believed on Him, ‘If you continue in My Words, then you are my disciples indeed, and you will know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will set you free.'”

What a deal—it is TRUE—and it is free.

BUSINESS AS USUAL

“I’ve got to keep giving everything to just put food on the table for my family.”

“What can we do now?”

“The democratic process gives Americans what they ask for.”

“Jesus will come someday soon and fix everything.”

“I dread the thought of persecution, but I’m not facing it yet.”

“Financial analysts tell us how to adjust, so we’ll get by, again.”

“History repeats itself, so it’s not really the end of the world.”

“Politics—that’s in Washington—I don’t live there.”

“Lots of product labels say things cause cancer—in California—I don’t live there.”

“Nothing changed in my life on November 7.”

“You win some—You lose some—I’ve got to go to work.”

“The re-elected ‘president’ said he’ll reach across the aisle, Nov.7”

“The Speaker of the House said he’ll reach across the aisle, Nov.7”

“Deficits are nothing new—nothing’s happened yet.”

“They haven’t blasted the Ten Commandments on the wall of the Supreme Court [just in their rulings].”

“We still hear ‘God Bless America’ at the end of speeches.”

“‘In God We Trust’ is still on our money—that should count for something.”

“We’re America—we should just get along with everybody.”

“Just tell everyone about Jesus—don’t worry about anything else.”

“What will be, will be—we can’t do anything about it.”

“When Martin Luther was asked if he would change his plans if he knew Jesus was coming back that day, he said he would still plant a tree as he had planned.”

“I’m just hanging onto my job”     —–average American worker

“I’m just hanging onto my job”     —–average American politician

I’ve written about “Business As Usual” before.

This time I’m leaving the above statements hanging, for thought.

WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN NOW

Culturally Compatible Christianity

“The worst thing that could happen is for the economy to rebound before the Church repents.”

.          —–quoted by Kirk Cameron from a friend of his, on AFR yesterday

BEST THAT COULD HAPPEN NOW

America now has a choice of two paths to return to God and greatness (or else . . . )

First Choice:  Christians can pray and choose to repent (change) now for not separating ourselves from the evils around us in this culture, and not speaking out against them – – – – – watching the godless media in news, music, TV shows, entertainment—storing up money that will soon disappear instead of helping others in need—intimidated into silence, from the pulpit and the pew, about killing babies and marriages—forgetting that our eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, to maintain it just as it was to gain it—keeping too busy to think about all this (that factor will change now)—and, getting too comfortable for too long to realize the warm pot that we should not be in, is near boiling.

WILL CHRISTIANS JUMP OUT OF THE POT, NOW?

or

Second Choice:  Christians will pray and repent and separate ourselves from the prevailing culture around us.

So what is the difference between can and will?

And what is the difference between Christians in the First Choice and Christians in the Second Choice?

Widespread persecution of Christians in the United States will draw a line separating Christians from all the others who think they are Christians.

And how will that look?  Now, when “God’s people . . . turn from their wicked ways”, it will include giving up everything we were not willing to let go of previously, when we tried culturally compatible Christianity.

In reference to the opening line:

America may or may not return to greatness.

Christians in America can certainly return to greatness, before God.
