WORRY—OR—PRAY—TODAY

When we are up against the wall— a paraphrase from His Book:

Not anxious.

Pray, in all this.

Plead with God.

Thanks, in this.

Tell God what we want.

He made today.

He gave today to all of us.

We know the beginning of today.

We don’t know the end of today.

Jesus knows.

Jesus loves us.

Jesus holds us.

Joy today.

Gladness today, in Him.

(from the beginning of the day of my sister-in-law’s cancer surgery)

“Be anxious for nothing,

But in everything by prayer

And supplication

With thanksgiving

Let your requests be made known to God.”

“The God of peace will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

“This is the day the Lord has made;

We will rejoice and be glad in it.”     —–His Book

COUNT IT ALL LOSS—COUNT IT ALL JOY

If you think this is something spiritual coming up, you’re right.

But it is also everyday real life practical, just as surely as the sun came up today and you need to eat.

After you get past the attempted complaints of contradictions in the Bible, and you buy into the truth of Jesus’ words, you still have to face numerous oxymorons in life and in the Bible.

The title above is prompted by two such oxymorons that fly in the face of typical human reasoning and effort.

I have come to believe that God lays out principles which contradict our thinking, so that all success in life is not to our credit, and even all failure in life is for His glory.  Perhaps the hardest place to learn this is in America.

COUNT IT ALL LOSS:

“The former things I counted as gain to me; those I count as loss for Christ.”

“Indeed, I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”

Sounds like we have to choose:

—Success according to the world

or

—Follow Jesus, and give up success according to the world

Oh, by the way, the Bible also says not many smart people, not many powerful people, not many respected in the world, are called and respond, but God chooses the foolish according to the world to confound the worldly wise.

Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

And Jesus said not many people, period, will enter the kingdom of heaven.

COUNT IT ALL JOY:

“My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into all kinds of trouble; know that the trying of your faith works patience.  But let patience have her perfect work, so you will be perfectly complete and lack nothing.”

I agree, this doesn’t make sense—until we follow Jesus and give Him control of everything.

And even then we often ask “Why?”—until we get to heaven and find out it was all much more that worth it all.

Until then we have His promises in the Bible that guarantee both our outcome and our strength for today.

CHRISTIANS AND PERSECUTION

“They can scare me, hurt me, kill me;

but they cannot separate me from

the love of God which is mine

through Christ Jesus.”

—–my godly wife

ENCOURAGEMENT FOR CHRISTIANS

If you are experiencing increased attacks from the enemy, let’s claim all this is because we are on the right side of the war, on Jesus’ side.

The most dangerous place is where a Christian avoids the battle.

EVOLUTIONISTS GOT ONE THING RIGHT

From the beginning of efforts to advance their theory, their cause, evolutionists have used a very descriptive, and very accurate term, admitting their theory hinges on it.  This term is actually a truism, and it describes a truth even to this day, much to their dismay.

The term—“Missing Link”

Missing for Darwin

Missing for now

Missing forever

The real missing link for evolutionists is not hidden or elusive.  It is Genesis and the whole Bible.

It’s amazing how creation, in Genesis, opens up a whole world of discovery that fits and makes sense and doesn’t require the “intellectual” gymnastics called for, to prop up evolution.

Summary:

Evolution is an Invention, not a Discovery.

IS JESUS IN THE BOAT?

Several responses to that question:

+Some despise the question because they simply don’t want Jesus in their boat.  But . . .

“One day every knee will bow;

One day every tongue will confess, ‘You are Lord.’

Still the greatest treasure remains

For those who gladly choose You now.”

+Some who follow Jesus forget that He is in the boat.  But He said . . .

“I will never leave you or forsake you.”

“I am with you always, to the end of the world.”

+Some who started following Jesus expected a smooth ride.  Truth is, Jesus said . . .

“In this world you will have trouble;

But be of good cheer—I have overcome the world.”

“If the world hated me, they will hate you.”

+Some who have Jesus in the boat still try to row it alone.

Personally now:  Do you face the storm with frantic fear, or faith?

We try harder and find the storm gets worse—it’s too much for us.  Jesus reminds us . . .

“Come to Me, all of you who labor and are heavy loaded, and I will give you rest.”

“My strength is made perfect in your weakness.”

+Some remember to call on Jesus at the last desperate moment, and yell at him.

Does Jesus help then, or fuss them?  Both.

He rebukes the storm, and it is calm.

And, He rebukes his followers, “Why were you fearful, Oh you of little faith.”

+But what if Jesus is not in the boat?

Whose fault is that?

And who caused the storm anyway?

Sometimes Jesus shows up in the storm, not in the boat (and scares the living daylights out of us).

Sometimes Jesus causes the storm, without consulting us.

Unbelievable—can we trust Him then?

Yes—we have to.  Yes—we choose to.

“Trust in the Lord, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

NOW IT IS TIME TO . . .

Turn, in your Bibles.

or

Turn in your Bibles.

LIGHT OR DARK

Walking in the dark makes you stumble.

Walking in the light makes you a target.

If you have answers, does anybody know?

If you have light, does anybody see?

If you have the light of Jesus, will you risk letting it shine?

“Let your light so shine before people, that they may see your good deeds, and give glory to your Father in heaven.”     —–Jesus

“REMEMBER THE ALAMO”

“Remember the Alamo” was not a passionate speech in front of a legislative body addressing grievances through the democratic process.

It was the battle cry of those rushing into armed conflict for a cause—freedom.

And it worked!!!

And that will be the cost of freedom again today.

PERRY FOR PRESIDENT?

I hope Perry is not holding back because he wants to be President of the United States more than he wants to be President of Texas.
