“SEND THEM AWAY . . .”

Disciples—misguided about children—to parents—tried to send them away—criticised,
“You shouldn’t bother Jesus.”

“Parents who brought their children to Jesus to lay His hands on them and bless them, were rebuked by the disciples, who were rebuked by Jesus, who welcomed the children in His arms and blessed them.”

Disciples‐‐‐misguided about the crowds—getting late, getting hungry—tried to send them away—to Jesus,
“Send them away, to go buy food for themselves.”

Jesus said, “You feed them. Then Jesus fed thousands with five biscuits and two fish, with leftovers (lots of leftovers).

Discples‐‐‐misguided about hurting woman—uncomfortable—tried to send her away—urged Jesus,
“Send her away—she is bothering us with all her crying out (shouting).”

Then Jesus stopped everything, and healed her.

Family—misguided about older relatives—we ‘can’t’ take care of
them‐‐‐try to send them away—to each other,
“It’s time for a nursing home—better off there.”

The Bible says, “If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

BE STILL

Be still ?
Now that is un-American nowadays.

Everything in us and around us tells us, compels us to keep moving (faster and faster), keep getting more information (faster and faster), keep getting more done (faster anf faster), keep getting more efficient (faster and faster), keep expecting more (faster and faster).

Did I say “faster” ?

Just observe what is on your screens, and everywhere you turn.
If you’re over 60 (maybe 50), and if you are not totally swamped by “faster, faster, faster”, and if you can remember when most everything was slower (much slower), then you can read the rest of this article.

Did you notice that unannounced visits are no longer appreciated, even no longer welcome ?

Did you ever experience that, with your children ?

Did you notice that visits have to be ‘scheduled’ ?

Did you ever have a need, someone to share it with, and there was no one (or shall I say there was no one available) ?

Did you ever give up on seeing someone you need to see because of the above, because you know they are too busy ?

Do not bother others, because you might be a bother ?

Do you think back on times when everything was slower, people were slower and had more time for each other ?

“You can’t go back !”
Don’t live in the past !
Keep moving ahead !
Don’t be left behind !

I never think about the rest:

FAITH ? – OR – FIGURE IT OUT ?

FAITH ? – WHEN YOU CAN’T FIGURE IT OUT ?

As I get older and my physical and mental functions decline, I wonder where that leaves my spiritual well-being.

I know the Bible verse that says,
“Even though our outward being is fading, our inward being is growing stronger.”

But my increasing difficulty remembering anything, includes distress over reading the Bible and immediately losing the thought (recall) of what I just read.

So how do I deal with that loss and the guilt of not holding in my mind
the Words from God that I just read, to strengthen me and keep me going through the day ?

Can I also turn that over to Jesus, and not worry about it ?

And, anyone who is not in my shoes, not going through what I’m facing, cannot understand that their suggestions don’t help (don’t apply).
It makes you want to say, “You’ll ‘get it’ someday”.
Well, maybe they will, maybe they won’t.

So, that’s why some older people struggle with things that cannot be fixed, that nobody knows, that makes them feel alone.

BUT GOD—
Can He ?
Will He ?
Is He the only One ?
Can we believe ?
Can I believe ?
Can I count on His promise to work for good, even the scarey stuff of decline, of losing ground ?

☆TAKE OFF☆ YOUR OWN MASK

We know the ‘rules’ about “take care of yourself first or you can’t help someone else”, and the airplane instruction to “put on your own oxygen mask before you help your child with theirs”.

During covid, were were told, and we were forced, to mask up, shield up, distance up, hide from others, not visit family, not look anyone in the eye or see what the rest of their face said, distance ourselves from interaction with everyone, fist bumps instead of handshakes (pretend, don’t touch), get the covid jab or lose your job, comply or you don’t care about others—all this thrust on the people overnight, designed and coordinated to create an entire population that does not trust anyone (making the most of the opportunity for complete control).

And what about, what have we learned (WHAT WE HAVE NOT LEARNED) from the covid mandates, six years ago, and for the next time ?

That time, how many, so many, Americans readily obeyed, out of fear.
— “Obey the health
‘authorities¿¿¿’ (or you’ll die).”
and
— “Obey the government
‘authoritiesXXX’ (or you’ll pay) ! ! !”

I could not believe what I saw when I went to town, and everyone (99%+) was all masked up.
It made me furious that fellow Americans were choosing to follow Fauche (Dr. F ?X?X), like under communism and other dictatorships.
I defined what that really meant in several articles on this site !

Americans, it’s time to TAKE OFF our masks and all they include, so we can see clearly right now what is destroying our country by dismantling our foundations and our freedoms.

PRIDE – VS – GUILT

● PRIDE and GUILT—good, bad, ugly

Amazing, how pride and guilt can each be very bad, and each can be very good.

Very Bad
Pride can lead to idolatry—self-worship.
Guilt can lead to despair—self-hatred.

Very Good
Pride can motivate—doing good in what you are good at doing.
Guilt can evaluate—repenting, changing from doing wrong to doing right.

● PRIDE and GUILT—everyday examples

“I love my work.”

“I hate my job.”

“I’m the best at what I do.”

“I’m good, because I do good.”

“I look at what I have accomplished, and I say to myself, . . .”

“I deserve a good retirement (‘eat, drink, and be merry’—or some American version of that).”

“Trying to be spiritual, I wonder if my work could become an idol, if I feel too good about it or love it too much.”

“I feel guilty when I tell my family ‘I have to’ work late.”

“Should I feel guilty when ‘I want to’ work late ?”

“I have to ‘provide’ for my family.”

“I can’t afford, I can’t just decide to give up 14% of my week”. (Sunday—fourth commandment)

“When does hard work make me live longer ?”

“When does hard work make me live less (not as healthy, not as many years, not enjoying the years) ?”

“Hard work makes you live longer, if it doesn’t kill you first.”

“I wonder, ‘Who am I really working for ?’ “

● PRIDE and GUILT—advice, counsel, warning, commands, mandates, encouragement, blessings

Advice to pastors,
“Ministers, wear yourselves out for Christ.”

“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as to the Lord and not to men . . . It is the Lord Christ you serve.”

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.”

“In vain (also “It is vain”) you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.”

“Six days you shall give all you’ve got and do all your work; the seventh is a day of rest, unto the Lord.”

“Don’t ‘spend all you’ve got’ * just trying to stay alive, and not live.”

“all you’ve got” (time, energy, money, thoughts, capital in your contacts)

Don’t prioritize preparing for retirement.
Don’t count on it.

“Do not store up treasures on earth (unsecured, insecure).”

“Store up treasures in heaven (secured by God).”

repeat: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.”

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”

● PRIDE and GUILT—how it started

Lucifer was ‘the best in heaven’—and he knew it—or he thought so—good looks (beautiful), good gifts (music leader), ambitious ? ¿

THEN—PRIDE—REVOLUTION—KICKED OUT OF HEAVEN ! X ! X ! X
He was guilty, he knew he was guilty, he never admitted he was guilty, he has no road back, ever.

He kept his attitude of pride‐‐‐lying, deceiving and terrorizing God’s creation (man), to get back at God.

● PRIDE and GUILT—final, the end, the last word

The devil will get what he deserves, from God.
And that is the end of the story for the devil, forever.

Pride started all this, and that is a mess, in a messed up world.
But that is not the end of the story, for us, THANK GOD ☆ ☆ ☆

We can take the road back, a narrow road, with limited access, many dangers, with promised help along the way—and not get what we deserve from God.

Paradise can be regained, not for the devil, but for us (not by us), by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

That covers our pride in what we think we can do, and that covers our guilt for what we have done and for what we have not done.

? MORE ADVICE THAN EVER ?

In recent decades, why do we have so very much ‘new’ Information Counseling than ever, for living and parenting and being Christiams ?

A universal trademark of all the resources and interviews with ‘experts’ on life and family—they are all presented with a mandate that everyone must get this ‘new’ insight, because we never could know this information before.

The universal, obvious question—how in the world did we make it in the past
without all these helps and answers for questions we weren’t asking ?

It seems like (we think) we can avoid learning through God’s ‘old-fasioned’ methods of discipline, if we get ‘this new book’ that tells exactly what we didn’t know.

I just listened to another presentation on parenting (also offering a ‘how-to’ book)—don’t protect your children from failure or consequences or simple ‘no’.
Yet in our relationship with God and His parenting us, we expect to avoid such discomfort. •

This leaves us with a dilemna of guilt and doubt whenever things don’t go right.
What went wrong because I didn’t do it right, according to . . . ?

If we experience trouble, we turn to all these resources to see what we’re doing wrong—and we miss God’s hand directing every detail—our Heavenly Father using discipline to bring us closer to Himself, because He loves us so much !

“Don’t miss (avoid, reject, despise) God’s ‘adjustments’ (rebukes, corrections, detours, re-directions) in our lives; remember whoever the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son He receives.”
(Don’t let modern translations and teaching dilute or
diminish that Word of God.)

We American Christians believe we should not suffer so much, because we know so much.

There are times when the Parent’s job is to make the child regret what he did.

Final question :
Is the Bible not enough anymore ?

IS ‘I’PHONE THE ALL-AMERICAN ‘I’DOL ?

Interesting—iphone and idol begin with “i”.
Does that tell us something of a connection ?

Perhaps we should consider what makes an idol, and see if the iphone, or any cell phone, qualifies as an idol.

(1) — An idol can be a statue or carved image that a person gives homage or special attention, with expectation of protection and blessings in return, acknowledging supernatural qualities with the idol.
(2) — An idol can be a person with so much power that he demands worship as a god.
(3) — An idol can be an unknown and unapproachable deity that makes followers perform unimaginable acts and rituals in hopes of pleasing it and appeasing its anger.
(4) — An idol can be an intangible entity that calls for, and consumes, a priority of our time and attention.
(5) — An idol can be something that we ‘can’t live without’ (we could, but painfully).
(6) — An idol can be identified and measured by what we do, or feel, or say when we lose it (do we ‘lose it’ when we lose it ?)
(7) — An idol can be what we treasure most or work hardest to acquire.
(8) — An idol can be another person, or ourself, or what we are capable of, or what we have accomplished.
(9) — An idol can be something we would not give up, or give away, to help someone less fortunate.
(10) — An idol can be any priority we pursue, with sacrifices over the top.

We might conclude that the above examples of idols don’t apply to us, and can’t possibly have any connection with our cell phones.

Maybe so, but we’re not done analyzing what idols have in common—and how people respond to their idols.

— Idols have power over us, voluntary on our part, or involuntary.
— Idols call for, and get, a significant portion of our time or energy or money, or all three.
— Idols entice us (however innocently), and we get accustomed to dependence and allegiance.
— Idols can be like drugs, with godlike control over us.
— Idols take priority over relationships, and come between us and those we love (loved).

Can the reader scrutinize each item above, with your cell phone in front of you ?
Re-read slowly, one at a time.
I leave the application to you, to make any changes necessary.

(I hope this has been a word for thought for someone.)
