TRUTH – – – KNOW IT – – – BELIEVE IT – – – CONTINUE IN IT

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed in Him, ‘If you continue in My Word, and My Word continues in you, then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.'”

HELICOPTER PARENTING – – – BY GOD ?

We recoil at the description of helicopter parenting.

Perhaps that is why we resist the thought of God literally running every detail of our life.

How can Jesus’ relationship with His Father show how we can relate with our Father ?
The same Father !

Personal, prompting this article–
Psalm 90 is a bit hard, unless you’ve been there, unless you’re there.
God sends stuff.
God sends a boatload.
And more.
And you ask—and I ask,
Why all this ?
Why now, after all these years ?
☆ What I have learned ?☆
What have I not learned ?
There is still hope !
Something I wrote over 15 years ago, still ringing true today:
“What I don’t deserve is the goodness of God graciously sending me consequences for my sin to lead me to repentance.”

That is helicopter parenting by God !

Is anything off-limits for God in our lives, in my life ?
Re-worded—Anything God can’t do in my life ?
Re-worded—Anything I don’t want God to do in my life ?

We may say–
There are some things I have to do, that God might not.
We may say–
God gave me a brain, to figure out some things myself.

Sounds so American, to Americans.

Sounds so arrogant, to God.

I want to get something done today.
And–
God wants to get something done today.

What does it take for the two to match ?
Which one has to move ?

“Have Your own way, Lord.
Have Your own way.
You are the potter;
I am the clay.

Mold me and make me
After Your will,
While I am waiting,
Yielded and still.”

IN THE CENTER OF GOD’S WILL

Is the center of God’s Will something that I achieve (must achieve) in my life ?
Is living in the center of God’s Will a lifelong search, like “Be perfect, as your Father in heaven . . .”
Are we destined to frustration because we haven’t ‘arrived’ at the place where we want to be, or where God wants us ?

Contentment includes believing I am in the center of God’s Will, even if I’m not in the center of my will.

HELICOPTER PARENTING – – – HELICOPTER HUSBANDING ?

The question is this:
Would it work in our lives if we took the Bible verses just as they are written, and applied them ?

“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”

If we don’t believe it would work, then the Bible continues in the next verse with how it works.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her . . .
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.”

Nowadays we think we improve on many things the Bible says, to make us more comfortable or more excited.

For decades now there has been a plethora of ‘upgrades’ to fit our enlightenment—book after book and programs galore explaining how marriage and family really work.
Doesn’t anybody raise a healthy skepticism over the compulsion to write a new list or formula that gets it right—meaning we didn’t have the secret before ?

How is it that we have created such a demand for new answers from psychology, and authors and talk show hosts capitalize on the ‘market’, boosting the search for even more.

Mutual submission does not come out of Eph 6, unless you are trying to ‘soften the blow’ of wives submitting.

If your marriage is great, you don’t have to listen to all the new presentations.
If your marriage is not good, then you ‘have to’ pay attention and try to follow every new book that fixes thousands, guaranteed.

“BOWELS”

The Bible gets to the heart of things.
It also gets to the gut of things.
We’ve ?smoothed over? some nitty-gritty things of life by changing words from older translations to soften the reader impact.

“filthy rags” (menstrual cloths) – to – “polluted garment”

“dung” – to – “rubbish

“bowels” – to – “mercy, deep compassion”

“kidneys” – to – “inmost being?

“peculiar” people – to – “chosen” people

WHAT IF JESUS TOLD YOU TO . . . ?

(I typed ‘bowels’ in the search bar, and was inspired to reprint/add to this from six years ago.)

Could Jesus tell you to do the same thing He told people in the Bible ?
No, Jesus wouldn’t tell me to do that—that was just for the person He was talking to in the Bible.

Such as . . .?
+”Sell all you have, give it to the poor, and come follow Me.”
+”You feed them.”
+”Let the little children come to Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of God.” DON’T KILL THEM—Don’t “send them away,” as the disciples said.
+”Don’t lay up treasures on earth.” (as in the typical American retirement portfolio)
+”Where your treasure is, there your heart WILL BE ALSO.”
+”Lay up treasure in heaven.” (can’t lay it up in heaven and keep it on earth)
+”If you see your brother or sister in need, and shut up your bowels of compassion, how does the love of God dwell in you?”
+”Do good to all people, especially to those of the household of faith.”
– – –
The devil’s first words, to Eve, effective ever since:
“Did God really say . . .?”
What if Jesus asked you to do something uncomfortable, to give up . . ., to give away . . .?
You might ought to listen, and do it.
Learn from Adam and Eve—it boils down to a simple choice, not rationale.
Are you afraid to go against the grain of history, especially current American history ?
– – –
Better to be on the right side with God—the right side of His/story—than on the right side of momentary, modern history.

‘TRINITY’ – – – MERRY-GO-ROUND

The ‘trinity’ merry-go-round spins so fast, perpetual motion, risk of flying off the ‘salvation’ mgr—or getting kicked off for questioning ‘trinity’.

Does salvation have an exclusive connection to the ‘trinity’ mgr ?—

Evangelism—is ‘trinity’ essential ?—is ‘trinity’ helpful ?

Discipleship—is ‘trinity’ essential ?—is ‘trinity’ helpful ?

What is ‘trinity’ good for ?

What is ‘trinity’ essential for ?

  • ? – Always done it this way ?—
    NO
  • ? – Everybody does it this way ?—
    YES ? Maybe
  • ? – Everybody believes it this way ?—YES ? Maybe not—We’re made to think YES—because ‘trinity’ is a continuously, casually, automatically repeated assumption.
  • ? – Everybody understands ‘trinity’ is true ?—
    NO—NOBODY understands ‘trinity’.
  • ? – ‘trinity’ explains God better than the Bible ?—
    NO—what a joke !
  • ? – Circular explanations using man-made words ?—
    Go round and round
  • ? – Describing God in human terms ?—
    Go round and round
  • ? – Quickly mired in quicksand of created vocabulary that requires more explanation, and more explanation, and more explanation (everybody has to add theirs) ?—
    Go round and round

Who made the mgr ?

Got to keep it going—WHY ?

Everybody’s on board—everybody who is anybody is on board with the ‘trinity ‘.

Response to anyone questioning ‘trinity’—
Make the claim that “They reject Jesus’ divinity”—Such extremism is easier to dismiss than questioning the value of ‘trinity’.

In everything I read, ‘trinity’ explains God, to understand God better (OH?)
—Attempt to understand God sounds very dangerous.
—God explains God, for us to read and trust and believe, not add.
—Seems this verse applies:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”—including your theology, as written by God Himself.

“Did God really say” enough about Himself, clearly enough without our additions ?
His Word says it is VERY DANGEROUS to add.

I’ve never heard or read a rational, logical, spiritual, Biblical questioning of the ‘trinity’—so I started writing about it on AWordforThought.com

I propose the following:

RANDOM SURVEY

Hello, I’m conducting a survey for research.
Could I ask you four questions ?
No pressure.
No agenda.
You can ask me questions at the end if you wish.
-1- Are you a Christian ?
-2- Have you heard of the trinity ?
-3- Does trinity have anything to do with becoming a Christian ?
-4- Last question—answer is optional—then you can ask me—
(4) How do you become a Christian ?

WHICH IS WORSE ?

Theologians and church leaders (past and present) inventing doctrines using their own words to ‘explain God’—because they know so much, and people expect them to have all the answers ?

OR

Everybody using their own ideas to invent their own ‘theology’ and create their own god that suits their thinking and lifestyle—after all, we have a brain to figure out the spiritual part of life ?

EXCLUSIVE ! – TRUST THE ‘EXPERTS’—hmmm

(You may notice returning to and repeating some points about experts not showing how they arrived at their expertise.)

End-time experts speak so clearly and confidently on the(ir) time line.
I never hear them explain how they came to be such experts.

They give general conclusions and specific details (from the Bible?), without the steps from Bible verses to their position.

If the Bible is their source,
And
If I have the same Bible,
Then
They should slowly and patiently take me through the process to connect the Bible verses to their teaching (which is ‘so obvious’ ?)

Some good Bible teachers ask questions of expert end-time guests, and trust their answers without pressing them for how they got there.
It has become common to hear the building blocks for end-time time-lines mentioned as foregone conclusions without question.
So I can’t get past their first premise, before I can believe or benefit from the rest they have to say.

(Reminds me of a college course 54 years ago in Modern Physics, presenting diagrams to show the speed of light is constant—so ‘the speed of time’ has to warp.
I had an experiment to put on the Space Shuttle, that would satisfy me—never shared it, so I remain(ed) stuck, hung up on ‘the speed of light’.)

TELLING POINT or DESPERATE DISAGREEMENT

It is easier to refute those on the other side of an issue by projecting opposing views as extreme positions, by using extreme labels.
This brings to mind the 1964 political slogan,
“Extremists are always wrong.”
Daddy had a very fitting response,
“Then you would have to include (disregard) Jesus.”

That slogan was used to write off the republican nominee for president. Hmmm—What’s new ?

● TDS
Trump Derangement Syndrome
Some despise, hate, Donald Trump so severely that they are driven to oppose everything he proposes, and cast extreme labels like Nazi and Hitler.

● DDS
Daddy Derangement Syndrome
Some despised Daddy (and anyone like him) so deeply that they are driven to oppose what he stood for and talked about, with extreme labels like cultist.

● MAGA
Make America Great Again
Some despise the MAGA movement from Trump so completely that they do everything to destroy America and twist the patriotic label ‘nationalists’ into an extreme pejorative.

● APPEASEMENT
Some oppose the war on Iran so blindly that they scream about WWIII to keep us from eliminating the world’s worst bully.

● ESCHATOLOGY
Some consider end-time time-lines that are different from theirs to be so obviously wrong that they imply ‘ridiculous’.

● TRINITY
‘Everybody’ believes the trinity is so basic, foundational Christianity, that some say, “explain trinity, lose your mind; deny trinity, lose your soul.”
