When is it good to be mainstream?
If you are a fish, you are in the stream. The question is, which way do you swim, and why?
A new fish starts way upstream and eagerly swims downstream to live in the ocean. The key words here are “eagerly swims downstream.” The fish’s life starts on the backs of other fish that struggled upstream with their last energy in life to spawn and continue their fish line for another generation.
When all the fish are swimming downstream, imagine that some may soon realize they don’t have to swim anymore—they can just drift, go with the flow, save the effort, and supposedly live happily ever after.
When they get to the end of the stream in the ocean, or when the stream goes over the cliff in falls, they find out they forgot how to swim, and they eventually forget how to return upstream to spawn and maintain their fish line.
If those fish reporting on the flow of fish downstream, simply report on the flow around them, they have no perspective on the mainstream—that is, the entire stream, falls and rapids and lakes and oceans, and spawning grounds that exist only way upstream.
If all the fish drift downstream, and only listen to the downstream media, very soon the stream will have no more fish. Then something else will soon inhabit the stream.
Both the fish line and the freedom line must have some members fighting upstream against the stream, or the fish line and the freedom line end.
Several groups in our society have a special responsibility beyond drifting downstream.
01) Christians, led by pastors, called by God and conscience, who boldly speak out against all evils to defend life and family and freedom now.
02) Journalists, who sound out clear and complete perspectives on the entire stream of our history, rather than just cast a vote for the easy drift downstream.
03) Educators, who understand they are warriors on the front lines of the culture war, and commit to teach our heritage, at any cost.
04) Statesmen, not politicians, who care enough about the country to keep it.
05) Patriots, who remember and identify with the Patriots of 250 years ago, and act accordingly.
06) Parents, who fight upstream to “bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord,” and sacrifice everything necessary to save them from today’s strong downstream current.
