HIDDEN CHALLENGES FOR THE VERY SMART AND SUCCESSFUL

(And my challenge as a writer is to shorten that title)

By definition, the very smart generally use their brain and their knowledge to figure out everything and calculate solutions, for themselves and others. Here is advice I gave to my son and daughter-in-law:

Four things your children need to see you doing every day (or at least become aware that you are doing every day).

One—Laughing heartily, spontaneously, along with being silly and just having fun. If we don’t act crazy sometimes, we all go crazy, regardless of our IQ.

Two—Reading your Bible

Three—Praying. Children seeing parents on their knees has greater lifelong impact than anything else in their life.

Four—Showing lavish affection on each other and on the children. Talk about security!

Conquered Grapes

How did we get Concord Grapes?  A little fact and a little fun.

When the Children of Israel defeated Jericho and took over the Promised Land, they had all the “milk and honey” they wanted—plus grapes, so big it took two men to carry one cluster on a pole between them.

I watched the movie again this evening about the pioneer girl pursuing her unconventional dream to be a doctor.  Some highlights—she assists the local doctor, partly against his will, is alone with a patient when he dies—totally devastated, saves a young girl’s life with brave surgery when the doctor is gone, helps an old and rich lady with physical therapy after a stroke, is rewarded with her schooling paid for, [Read more…]
