Jesus’ disciples lost all faith in survival and thought they were going to drown in a sudden storm on the Sea of Gallilee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Waves were getting in the boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seasoned fishermen can die just like anyone else, and they were scared to death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, but Jesus was with them, so they should not have been afraid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, just like us—we know Jesus is with us, but we still lose it when the waves come overboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Jesus was asleep, and waking Him meant admitting they were at their wits end, embarrassing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And, just like us—sometimes it feels like Jesus may as well be sleeping in our storm-tossed boat, and in our attempted self-sufficiency we delay calling out to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did Jesus save the disciples?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, that day he saved their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He had a mission for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That mission included opposition that threatened their very lives—not by a storm on water, but at the hands of men who hated their message that Jesus is the way, the only way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And Jesus did not save them then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They gave their lives, and Jesus gave them perfect LIFE in heaven—the ultimate “Peace be still, and the waves and wind died down, and suddenly there was a great calm.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we “Call on Him in the day of our trouble”—whether right away or delayed—“He will deliver us, and we will glorify Him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes (but not always) we get to glorify Him for deliverance here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Always, forever, we get to glorify Him in heaven, in the presence of Jesus (and those same disciples that were so scared, more than once).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, the title above—<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What really terrified the disciples more than the storm was the realization when Jesus instantly made the wind and waves obey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WHO IS THIS REALLY, IN OUR BOAT, that we are following?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We left everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where is He taking us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Little did they know, yet, but it was starting to sink in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
May it be so for you and me today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You fearful saints, fresh courage take;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The storms you so much dread<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Are filled with mercy and shall break<\/p>\n\n\n\n
