Many people and situations in life tell us to “hurry up.”<\/p>\n
But “the race is not always to the swift.”<\/p>\n
And what might we miss while we are hurrying?<\/p>\n
And just what’s with the “up” part?<\/p>\n
Get up the ladder—get it done—and then what?<\/p>\n
Often, after we hurry up, we have to wait.<\/p>\n
Many people in a hurry can’t wait, so . . .<\/p>\n
. . . so they hurry to the next rush, and miss more .<\/p>\n
And, they miss more of the more important.<\/p>\n
The most important things in life take time.<\/p>\n
The most important things in life can’t be done in a hurry.<\/p>\n
The most important things in life require undivided attention.<\/p>\n
The first step in overcoming “the tyranny of the urgent” is to choose some urgent thing that is not going to get done, while choosing some valuable thing to do instead.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
God.<\/p>\n
Family.<\/p>\n
Love.<\/p>\n
Faith.<\/p>\n
Serving.<\/p>\n
And,<\/p>\n
Waiting<\/span>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n God—“Pray without ceasing (no rush<\/span>)?”<\/p>\n Family—Sacrifice yourself, and give<\/span>.<\/p>\n Love—Spelled “Time<\/span>.”<\/p>\n Faith—“Trust in the Lord, and wait<\/span> patiently for Him.”<\/p>\n Service—“He humbled<\/span> Himself, and became the Servant of all.”<\/p>\n Waiting—Doing nothing<\/span>. \u00a0“Stand still, and see God save the day.”<\/p>\n <\/p>\n So the more Biblical mandate would be:<\/p>\n Instead of “Hurry up and wait,”<\/p>\n Wait first, on God, and then you will have plenty of time to do something that counts—something that He counts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Many people and situations in life tell us to “hurry up.” But “the race is not always to the swift.” And what might we miss while we are hurrying?
