The two biggest pitfalls of the church today:<\/p>\n
—the effect of evolution<\/p>\n
—the effect of money<\/u><\/p>\n
The second one here:<\/p>\n
The very fact that people in the church have as much treasure laid up on earth as those outside the church, is reason enough why the church can’t say anything with authority about money.<\/p>\n
And that explains the lack of spiritual power as well, for revival.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And, back to Sodom—and Lot’s wife:<\/p>\n
She couldn’t leave it all behind and never look back.<\/p>\n
They had a good life in Sodom, in the middle of gross evil which they apparently did not protest.<\/p>\n
It took two angels to drag them out of the hell just before it went up in smoke.<\/p>\n
And she still had to have one last look—the last!<\/p>\n
Remember, that story began when “Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom” for economic reasons—his uncle let him pick the best land—and it ruined him and his family and his influence.<\/p>\n
The American church today cannot leave it all behind, right now—much less, never look back.<\/p>\n
We can’t speak and act boldly enough against sin in this culture, because we are too closely bound to the comforts and promises that money affords in America.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
