{"id":3100,"date":"2015-11-27T14:07:30","date_gmt":"2015-11-27T20:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=3100"},"modified":"2015-11-27T14:07:30","modified_gmt":"2015-11-27T20:07:30","slug":"from-absolutely-to-i-dont-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=3100","title":{"rendered":"FROM &#8220;ABSOLUTELY&#8221; TO &#8220;I DON&#8217;T KNOW&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a number of years now I observe the extreme over-use of the word &#8220;absolutely,&#8221; most noticeable in nearly every media interview, multiple times.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how it started, or if someone or some show is responsible.<\/p>\n<p>But it is so obvious, that surely others have noticed this as well.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it is a subconscious effort to bolster confidence in the midst of these very uncertain days.<\/p>\n<p>It seems people must say\u00a0 &#8220;absolutely&#8221; so frequently about anything they can feel sure of now, to cover the growing, looming cloud hanging over us&#8212;where nobody has answers for the big questions.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m starting to see a few honest commentators and private individuals willing to say, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I welcome that, because we have to come to the end of our knowing, to admit we need help.<\/p>\n<p>But most people today feel they cannot afford to stop, talk, and deal with the scary stuff encroaching our world.<\/p>\n<p>There are two reasons why &#8220;I don&#8217;t know&#8221; is not yet heard widespread, but it will change soon.<\/p>\n<p>One, to survive, everyone is focused on going to work one more day, to make it one more day, until the day we can&#8217;t.\u00a0 We all hold on to the last shred of &#8220;absolutely&#8221; just as long as we can.<\/p>\n<p>Two, to play it safe, everyone is aware that acknowledging the fear of the unknown requires action against the rampaging evil that is here now.\u00a0 And such action costs everything.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what to say sometimes, and writing is more difficult now.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how to motivate those in positions with influence over an audience.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how to get them to shift from saturation with documentation of evil, to rallying the remnant to resist the evil.<\/p>\n<p>I feel that most of my writing is only a starting point.\u00a0 There must be more.\u00a0 Writers inspired many in the days of the American Revolution.\u00a0 We need that today.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how to organize and lead resistance that will make a difference, so I write to &#8220;make a difference in the parts that are for keeps.<\/p>\n<p>I am led and compelled to be involved in all parts of life, for here and for hereafter.<\/p>\n<p>There is a song that says, &#8220;When answers aren&#8217;t enough, there is Jesus.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For a number of years now I observe the extreme over-use of the word &#8220;absolutely,&#8221; most noticeable in nearly every media interview, multiple times.
