{"id":3013,"date":"2015-09-19T17:33:44","date_gmt":"2015-09-19T22:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=3013"},"modified":"2015-11-07T11:46:29","modified_gmt":"2015-11-07T17:46:29","slug":"why-did-the-government-take-over-welfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=3013","title":{"rendered":"WHY DID THE GOVERNMENT TAKE OVER WELFARE?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is there an explanation, a cause, for the government starting and growing the welfare monstrosity we have today?<\/p>\n<p>Yes!<\/p>\n<p>For most of our history the churches of America helped people in real need, with personal, hands-on assistance.<\/p>\n<p>And help usually included addressing the spiritual source and spiritual solution to the people&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n<p>When a real person helps a real person with a real need, there is real accountability built into the relationship.<\/p>\n<p>So what happened?<\/p>\n<p>People in the churches became comfortable with American prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>They left behind the call to deny ourselves and help others.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, their resources shifted to buying more stuff and buying insurance to protect it and storing up for retirement&#8212;the American dream.<\/p>\n<p>So, money that was supposed to be used for Biblical welfare, was committed elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Helping the needy became someone else&#8217;s job, funded by some budget.<\/p>\n<p>First it was the church&#8217;s budget, then the government&#8217;s budget.<\/p>\n<p>And now it seems irreversible.<\/p>\n<p>Irreversible, unless Christians reverse course, financially.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is there an explanation, a cause, for the government starting and growing the welfare monstrosity we have today?
