{"id":1519,"date":"2013-01-17T09:41:16","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T15:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=1519"},"modified":"2013-01-17T09:51:55","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T15:51:55","slug":"lord-what-do-you-want-me-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.awordforthought.com\/?p=1519","title":{"rendered":"\u201cLORD, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Often when I get some insight from God, my first and primary response is eager, even anxious, to share it with someone, or get it written down before I forget it.\u00a0 (a few days ago I shared the significance of my memory difficulty)<\/p>\n<p>This morning was no exception. \u00a0Again, I may forget some profound thoughts (at least I thought profound at the time).\u00a0 But I will remember one.<\/p>\n<p>Anytime that anything&#8212;any thought, any word, any email, any news&#8212;or any person interferes with our time with God first thing in the morning (quiet, alone, with His Book, on our knees), our entire day will suffer, no matter how much we have planned (or how much others have planned for us) or how much we think we have to get done.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what I do remember from this morning, and it\u2019s so simple you may miss it.\u00a0 Don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Several years ago in a close group of Godly men, I prayed aloud, \u201cLord, what do you want me to do?\u201d\u00a0 Sounds good, doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 But God spoke to me inside immediately, \u201cLeave off the last part, and we can talk.\u201d\u00a0 So, He wanted me to make my prayer shorter?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLord, what do you want?\u201d\u00a0 I have tried to pray that more, since then, especially when I\u2019m worried about not getting enough done.\u00a0 Perhaps my greatest nemesis centers around, \u201cI didn\u2019t get anything done.\u201d\u00a0 To which my pastor once replied, \u201cAre you sure?\u201d\u00a0 (meaning, according to Whose agenda?)<\/p>\n<p>This morning God gave me a simple, additional insight.\u00a0 He knows I like to use concise words with significant twists to capture attention and communicate.\u00a0 So He did the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLord, what do you want me to do?\u201d\u00a0 becomes\u00a0 \u201cLord, what do you want . . . me?\u201d\u00a0 Anything else I can pray between those three dots doesn\u2019t matter until He has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">me<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>God wants me&#8212;first a relationship&#8212;then a closer relationship&#8212;time spent talking, together&#8212;then, and only then, doing anything worthwhile, together.<\/p>\n<p>God wants you&#8212;same thing&#8212;
