ECONOMICS FOR DUMMIES (1)

“If any would not work, neither should he eat.”

.          —His Book

FUN , IN HARD TIMES ?

Sometimes it’s hard to say whether hard times eliminate room for fun or increase the need for fun.

My conclusion is to keep on trucking—address the serious stuff today and take any opportunity to make someone laugh as well.  The greater challenge for me personally is to laugh heartily myself.

Anyway, here’s one most people may know, but I just heard it for the first time from some friends on the radio.

Bible Trivia:  David picked up five stones from the creek and used one to kill Goliath.  Did you know Goliath had four brothers?  (Don’t know where they were)  (Wonder what David did with those four stones)

GIVE UP ?

After you’ve given everything you have to give, and you give up—then what?

Can God make anything out of your life when all you have left to give is “. . . up”?

Isn’t it interesting that the phrase “give up” has the word “up” in it.

So, when we give up in the presence of God, He can work with that.

FAMINE IN AMERICA ?

Is it possible to have famine in a land of plenty?

Is it possible to suffer from malnutrition while having plenty to eat?

Taking this to the extreme, is it possible to starve even with a full stomach?

My dad often quoted someone who said, “It is not how much you eat that makes you strong; it is how much you properly digest.”

Back to the first question:

Is it possible to have famine in a land of plenty?

Did you ever get so busy, so wrapped up in something, or so worried, that you failed to eat and got sick?

If you ignore your basic needs and basic health, it can kill you.

And now, my point—

“Behold, the days come, says the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.”

Plenty of Bibles, but a famine of “hearing” the Word.

FAMINE  IN  AMERICA ?

POSITIVE PERSECUTION

(Inspired by Sandy Rios this morning on AFR Talk.)

What if it should be true for Christians in the American church, that intense persecution will be the key to the fourth great awakening?

There was testimony this morning again that it was true in China in the 20th century.  It is also true in the Bible, from the beginning of the Christian church.

American Christianity has been the exception, but not for much longer.

In the light of what is ahead, here is a word for American pastors.  If you have reasons not to get involved in politics now, to recapture and preserve our religious freedom, then please start now telling your people what to expect and how to deal with the certainty of coming persecution.

As I’ve said before, one of my greatest concerns is that most Christians in this country won’t understand what hit them and won’t know what to do when severe persecution comes to America for the first time.

Real Christianity—coming right up.

PRAY – – – PRAY – – – PRAY

Billy Graham said the three things necessary for a successful crusade were:

PRAY     PRAY     PRAY.

What shall we pray for on this National Day of Prayer?

. . . God, Forgive America

. . God, Heal America

. God, Bless America

And what does that require?

IF . . . (may be old, may be worn out, may be memorized, still true)

If God’s People . . .

.  .  .  humble ourselves

.  .  .  pray

.  .  .  seek His face

.  .  .  turn from our sin, then . . .

GUN CONTROL

Gun Control—hold your gun with both hands, and practice using it.

Prerequisite:

Self Control—hold your Bible with both hands, and practice opening it.

“IN FORTY DAYS . . . “

The hardest thing for the prophet of God, is to publicly proclaim, “In forty days Nineveh will be destroyed,” and then get on his knees alone and pray that it may not be so.

WASTE OF TIME – – – JUST FOR FUN

The biggest waste of time in conversation is the simple question, “How are you doing?”

Everybody says it.  Nearly everybody isn’t serious.  And, who answers it honestly?

Some solve this problem by coming up with creative answers that include humor.  If you make somebody laugh, you don’t have to tell anybody how you’re doing.  And everybody’s better off when we laugh.

So—

How are you doing?     I was okay, but I got over it.

How are you doing?     I made it this far.

How are you doing?     Do you want my opinion, or God’s?

(When all else fails, you answer a question with a question)

OBAMERICA – – – HITLER’S GERMANY

Some people are pointing out the parallels.

Most people don’t want to hear about it.

In many ways America is in greater peril than Germany was:

01)  Religious zeal is often more powerful than military might.  Islam is behind Obamerica.

02)  Germany had the United States and Great Britain to snatch it from the jaws of death, at the brink, and at dire cost, with resolve not found in the free world today.  Who could muster a Normandy Invasion to save America?

03)  Where is the last bastion of freedom and democracy in the world without America?  (Unless the citizens of The Republic of Texas and a few neighbors take seriously our responsibility to preserve everything we hold dear.)

04)  Most American Christians have failed the test of history.  The German church learned too late that talking with a dictator is disaster.  Hitler told the German church leaders directly, in person, “Leave the soul of Germany in my hands.”  (see 4-27-12)

05)  Germany was extraordinarily blessed to be the cradle of the Reformation and true religious freedom when everybody got to read the Bible.  And when they forgot that heritage, all hell broke loose.  It’s the same with America, and more.  A single word comes to mind—WOE !
