THE CHURCH SAYS IT – – – BUT . . .

. . . But, did God really say it?

To quote the original author of that line, in Eden:
“Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat of that fruit’?”

Examine everything the church says, and tells you to do.
Is it in the Bible?
Or do you have to take their word for it?

If you, or anyone, can see it is in the Bible, great—do it.
If you, or anyone, can not see it is in the Bible, not great—beware!

Don’t count on figuring it out without the Bible.
Don’t count on following the church without the Bible.

“Search the Scriptures yourself, for in them you have eternal life, and they testify of Jesus.”

IS JESUS YOUR SAVIOR ?

If you never say that Jesus is your Savior, it is doubtful that He is.

OCD—READING LABELS REPEATEDLY

Silently reading the same signs or labels (on anything) over and over every time you see them, is usually not something anyone talks about.
But it can be a maddening waste of time and mind.

Suggestion:
Write out Bible verses and stick them over any labels you don’t want to keep reading.

WHAT WOULD JESUS SAY ?

When Jesus walked and talked and preached and taught and healed and rebuked, lots of people came to Him to get their lives right.
He responded many different ways, depending mostly on their degree of honesty and brokenness.

Picture yourself approaching Jesus, just like all those people did.
What exactly would you say?
What exactly would Jesus hear?
What might Jesus say, to you?

Perhaps, actually in Jesus presence, you would think of the song, “I Can Only Imagine.”
Would you stand, would you shout, would you kneel, would you bow, would you fall on your face?

Would you ask Him a puzzling theological question?
Would you ask Him to heal you, or someone?
Would you cry for mercy?
Would you take that rare, once-in-a-lifetime moment to just worship Him and say nothing, knowing that He knows your needs already, because He knows you completely?

Now, you can come to Jesus for real, just as real as face-to-face when He walked here.
But, as the stories show, come straight, real, honest, with nothing.

Are you ready for:
“What Would Jesus Say?”—to you?—to me?

STATE OF THE UNION

Nancy Pelosi searched her printed copy of Trump’s speech throughout his delivery.
She couldn’t find something wrong, so in frustration, all she could do is tear it up.

“Socialism destroys nations, but freedom unites the soul.”—–Donald Trump

“No parent should be forced to send their child to a failing government school.”—–Donald Trump

“We will never let socialism destroy American health care.”—–Donald Trump

GIVING GIVES

“There was a man, they called him mad.
The more he gave, the more he had.”—–John Bunyan

OLD WRITERS

Old writers never die—they just start another story.

THANK YOU, MEEKE

“Airing the Addisons” on afr.net 2-3-20
Thank you, Meeke and Wil for talking about ‘vexed.’
“Lot was vexed with the filthy conversation (lifestyle) of Sodom.

And thank you for breaking into talking straight about swimwear.
It doesn’t matter where culture says a certain dress is appropriate.
What women wear affects those who see it no matter where we go.
You talked about your girls growing up wearing a t-shirt and shorts to go swimming.
Wow! Is that ever a breath of fresh air.
May your tribe increase!

I personally paid a high price once for bringing up this subject.

“NO, LORD”

That is the shortest oxymoron I’ve heard.
We dare not say “NO” to “THE LORD.”

“He is Lord, He is Lord.
He is risen from the dead
And He is Lord.
Every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord.”

Consider singing that when facing martyrdom.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY NOT?

Why do bad things happen to good people?
Why do good things happen to bad people?
Why does everything happen?
Then somebody says, “Why not?”

The world is messed up.
People are messed up.
So we’re basically left comparing ourselves with others.
If we think we’re better than others, we’re the good people, and we deserve better things.
If we think some people are not as good as ourselves, they’re the bad people, and they deserve worse things.

If we’re in the top half (or quarter) of people with good things happening to us, we’re likely to think it’s because we’re better than others.
We may not actually say we’re better—we may say (or believe) we made better choices because we’re smarter.
Most people with more good things happening have trouble understanding most people below them in the world.
Most people with more good things happening think that people below them should come up in the world by doing what they do.

It is tempting for anyone to think that other people’s lives should be ‘fixed’ if they listened to our advice, because we’re ‘successful.’
When someone is clearly overloaded with ‘more than their share’ of bad, others with much more good in their lives don’t know what to do.
So they try to explain it without being able to relate.
Any of us can communicate loud and clear that we think we’re better than those in trouble on top of trouble.

Can we care—when we can’t explain?
Can we help—when we can’t fix?
Can we accept—when we’re uncomfortable?
Can we encourage—when we don’t have answers?
Can we touch—when we understand that we’re not better, really?
Can we pray with someone—when we don’t have anything to give?
Can we show, and tell, the love of Jesus, to anyone?
Jesus “went about doing good, because God was with Him.”
And then He told us to “Go and do likewise.”

To my memory of Daddy.
